Homemade eye washes or eye baths are highly beneficial for relieving eye strain and heal issues like redness, itchiness, and eye irritation. Moreover, these recipes can be used to make your eyes appear brighter and reduce under-eye puffiness.

When using a homemade eye wash, make sure to strain the solution properly, preferably with a coffee filter so as to avoid getting even a tiny particle in your eye.

In addition, you can make natural eye salves, with the help of herbs like lavender, calendula, chamomile, comforter, etc. to moisturize and soothe your eyes.

You can use an eye bath solution by with the help of an eyecup. Fill half the cup with the recipe, bend your head down, close your eye, and press the cup to the eye.

While tilting your head back, open your eye gently and blink it repeatedly. Follow this procedure twice on both the eyes.

Homemade Eye Washes and Salves
  • Prepare herbal eye wash by adding dried herbs, or about ten drops of a herbal tincture in a cup of distilled water. Boil the solution and strain it properly before using. Finish the homemade eye bath solution within 24 hours.
  • Put one teaspoon each of fennel seeds and fresh rose petals in a bowl. Boil one and a half cup of distilled water and pour the hot water over the herbs and steep for about 15 minutes. When dealing with itchy eyes, replace fennel with dried spearmint.
  • If you are suffering from mild infection, boil a cup of water mixed with dried chamomile flowers or barberry root for about 15 minutes. Cool and strain the solution, and use it as an effective eye wash.
  • Washing your eyes with a combination of two parts of green tea and one part of water is considered good for eyes because it cures itching and irritation naturally.
  • In addition, you can keep used green tea bags in the refrigerator and place them over your eyes after a few hours to reduce swelling and inflammation. It also helps clear dark circles.
  • Another simple remedy for healing tired eyes involves washing your eyes with a cup of distilled water mixed with a teaspoon of organic honey.

  • Heat this mixture in a double boiler for about half an hour while stirring once in a while. Strain the oil and set it aside. Next, heat half a cup of beeswax in a double-boiler until it melts. Finally, mix the olive oil solution in it. Store this salve in a sterilized air-tight jar.
  • Make a cooling eye gel by heating a combination of one tablespoon of aloe vera gel, one teaspoon of cucumber juice, and a quarter teaspoon of cornstarch.
  • You can heat it in the microwave for about a minute. Finally, add a tablespoon of witch hazel in the recipe and stir it. Allow it to cool and then transfer the recipe in a sterilized container.
  • Prepare an anti-aging eye cream by blending the pulp of half an avocado with five drops of sweet almond oil. Regular application of this cream around eyes helps reduce fine lines.
  • When troubled by sore and tired eyes, try not to rub your eyes vigorously at it tends to irritate the eyes even more.
